Trying to find Butane canister in Costa Rica
26 10 2004OK, got into Managua with a few hours to kill so we took a free autobus to this convention center where we had a fantastic lunch - Meghan had coke and lobster and I had fresh squeezed OJ and beef tournadoes, it was all about $30 including tip. Got on the plane to San Jose no problem, had some more of the great pineapple guava juice. Landed in San Jose, took a cab to a universal store which sells everything from car stereos to Barney dolls (there were lots of these), but no butane nor white gas for my stove. One recommendation after another took us to gun and knife stores, some had butane (Campingaz brand with a pierce connection) but nothing that I can use. Did I mention that it was raining like a MF, and Meghan and I had all our bags w/ us? Finally some guy said nowhere in Costa Rica will I find a threaded butane canister. Fine, I’ll just use diesel, I thought… We walked a couple of blocks to a great hotel, Dona Inez. We had planned to take a little rest and go to dinner, but we woke up at 11 so we said screw it, we’ll just sleep til morning, which we did.
